Vineland Research and Innovation Centre

Dr. Stan Benda is the IP / Licensing lawyer for the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre.

Vineland Research and Innovation Centre is a world-class research centre dedicated to horticultural science and innovation. Located in Canada’s Niagara Region, Vineland’s mission is to deliver innovative product and production solutions that address the needs of the horticulture industry and advance Canada’s research and commercialization agenda. We are an independent, not-for-profit organization, funded in part by Growing Forward, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative.

Vineland’s primary stakeholders are the horticulture industry and government. Its broader stakeholder community includes academia, the general public, the scientific community, Board, and Advisory Committees.

Vineland’s partnership model demands research and communications synergies with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and the University of Guelph. Vineland also aims to build a strong union with regional government in achieving mutual goals for local agriculture agri-food prosperity.

With respect to industry, Vineland’s  collaboration involves research partnership agreements and working relationships with the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association, Ontario Tender Fruit Producers’ Marketing Board, Ontario Apple Growers, Ontario Fresh Grape Growers’ Marketing Board, Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers, Grape Growers of Ontario, Ontario Processing Vegetable Growers, Ontario Berry Growers’ Association, Ontario Asparagus Growers, Ontario Potato Board, Fresh Vegetable Growers of Ontario, Flowers Canada (Ontario), Canadian Nursery Landscape Association, and Landscape Ontario. Vineland also partners and seeks input from downstream stakeholders in processing, packing, retail and foodservice.

In 2007, Vineland established a Stakeholder Advisory Committee to addresses sector-specific opportunities and the quality of knowledge transfer. Today, the committee also assists in strengthening research communications across the country.
